Sound Therapy and Mindfulness

Sound Therapy is complimentary to practicing Mindfulness. For someone who practices meditation and/or mindfulness, sound therapy offers therapeutic benefits not only to the body but to the mind and spirit. It brings about an openness that allows calming. The vibrational frequencies of sound healing instruments like crystal and therapeutic metal bowls have the ability to move through skin, fluid, and bones of the body, creating a full body relaxation and recalibration down to the level of the cellular structure. The experience creates an environment of “resonance” within the body. Returning to a natural, resonant environment with practices like grounding, hearing and feeling the sound vibrations of nature, or instrumental sounds that reset our resonant frequency, is said to have a profound impact on our health, longevity, immunity, and mental and emotional stability.

Experiencing sound therapy is a way to bring about awareness. The senses become heightened and there is more clarity to mindfulness practices. One way to practice mindfulness during a sound healing session is to pay attention to the breath. It is common in the beginning of a session for the client to feel like they are breathing very shallow. As the session progresses, the breathing slows down, becomes deeper and more rhythmic. The client will often notice they become more aware of their breathing pattern both during a meditation practice and in other areas of their daily lives.
